A new approach to fixing our roads
- Created bipartisan task force to analyze road issues
- Developed long term strategy to improve our roads network including Ford Rd, Major Roads and Local Subdivision Roads
- Educated residents on our challenges and the plan moving forward
- Worked with MDOT to secure Ford Rd Funding
- Collaborated with County to expand work
- Successful Millage Passed by Community to enact plan
- Created Roads Advisory committee to make sure we achieve our goals with the roads improvement plan.
Transparency
- Developed and passed extensive Ethics Ordinance
- Formalized criminal consequences for unethical behavior of elected officials
- Violators can be subject to a misdemeanor charge and face possible jail time or a fine
- Independent three person Ethics Board created to oversee complaints
- Township meetings added to YouTube / Minutes added to Website
- Township highlighted by Detroit Public Radio for excellent FOIA process
Voting Accessiblity
- Reduced crowded lines in precincts by moving boundaries
- Rearranged voting locations to reduce travel distance to the polls
- Expanded absentee voting list to over 10,000 making voting easier from home
Committee Restructuring
- Expanded planning commission and included additional residents
- Appointed a diverse group of residents to zoning board, Community and Development Block Grant (CDBG) board, Culture Art and Humanities Board
- Started the township’s first Technology committee
- ADA Committee Transition Committee formed
- Reformed the committee appointment process, we now have an interview committee, an applications and stopped automatic re-appointments.
- Started the Inclusion Task Force and the You Belong Here intiative
Livable, Walkable Community
- Purchased land and create parks near neighborhoods without parks
- Expanded walking paths
- Pedestrian Bridge in Cherry Hill Village
- Protected tree replacement ordinance to ensure forests are maintained
Water Rates & Billing
- Reduced water rates two years in a row
- Established bi-monthly billing/payments to assist residents with smaller, more frequent bills
- Added technology to Water Billing/Paying Process (eUtilities on Web Site)
Public Safety
- Worked with Senator Stabenow's office to address excessive train delays on the tracks in the NE corner of Canton
- Trained and equipped officers with NARCAN to address opium overdose
- Pioneered Peer Recovery program with St. Mary’s and Growth Works to get addicts and alcoholics the help they need
- Started a Juvenile Diversion Program
Transportation
- Nankin Mills transportation for seniors and disabled hours have been extended
- Nankin Mills will provide transportation to SMART stations outside of Canton
Inclusion
- Cultural tour to take residents to community faith houses for culture and cultural food experience
- Passed welcoming community resolution
- ADA Transition plan passed
- Started the Inclusion Task Force and You Belong
Recycling
- New larger recycling bins deployed
- Creating campaign on recycling education
